Jasmine Crowe, a promising pop singer/songwriter based in San Francisco, CA, has won the March SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song “Supernova” (co-written by her husband/partner Josh Carey). Crowe will be including “Supernova” on her upcoming debut album project, which she plans to release this summer.
“Supernova” is a modern pop/rock cut which creates a dramatic, understated mood in the verses that is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey, then transitions into a high energy, powerful chorus (a la Kelly Clarkson). This song provides an excellent showcase for Crowe's clear, expressive vocals, and was expertly produced by Crowe & Carey. Impressively, Crowe played all keyboards and violin on this recording, with Carey playing drums and doing the arrangements.
Crowe was born and raised in the city of Hilo, on the big island of Hawaii. She began playing violin at a very young age, and when she was a teenager she learned to play piano and guitar. During high school, Crowe started to write songs, and she performed in musical theatre productions and played violin in the school orchestra.
After high school, Crowe attended classes at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, but she decided to concentrate fulltime on developing her music career. "I've been focusing on performing, songwriting and production," she explained. "I got into production by necessity...I learned to do it myself."
Here's the lyric video of Jasmine Crowe's song, "Supernova."
She met her husband Carey in Hawaii, and in 2013 they decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue their music careers. "We met some cool people in studios, and we worked with a production team who helped mentor us a bit," said Crowe.
The couple has since moved to San Francisco, but they still come to L.A. to do shows. They've set up a home studio with ProTools gear, and Crowe has recorded and released three singles: "Supernova," "Phoenix Rising" and "Black Widow." "The three singles have done well," she said. "We've gotten airplay in Hawaii, Los Angeles, and in England."
Currently, Crowe is busy writing and recording songs for her upcoming album, and she's working on putting a band together. "My goal is to release the album and tour the west coast this year," she said.
